38 doors knocked   8 people qualified    8 business cards handed out     34 minutes

I woke up this morning feeling very much under the weather and attempted to go door knocking.  Notice that attempt only last 34 minutes with 8 contacts.  Keep in mind, my target number is 14, but I knew as soon as I got out there that I was not feeling it so I called it quits.  Not my proudest moment, but I was being honest with myself.  Have you ever tried to convince a family member or a friend to do something when you are not feeling well? Have you noticed your tone? Your attitude? How about your success rate? Well, I am in the business of educating people, many of them complete strangers, about when they are ready to move that I am the absolute best person for the job.  Not an easy task, when I'm not feel.  Tomorrow is another day!

You might have noticed that I skipped Tuesday.  I had a conference call and yes I am ashamed to admit that I let it get in the way of my door knocking.  I was planning to go last night, but if you read one of my earlier blogs, you would notice I am not a fan of evening knocking and yesterday was one of those days.  So, I got out there again today and again only 34 minutes later and I called it quits.  To be honest, I had a late start as I decided to take a few quick calls before I left and then a few emails and then before you know it, it is 11:30am and my door knocking is supposed to start at 10am and so now we are cutting into another part of my day. 

One of the most challenging parts of being a Realtor is being your own boss.  Keep in mind, if you wake up late or you do not prospect or follow up with your prospects because you are thinking about an offer than fell through, a home that did not pass appraisal, or a buyer that was rejected from the board, you are not spending time, and emotions that have already been spent. Have you ever had your car towed while on a date and had to pay $500 to get it back and then spent half the day telling everyone what happened because you were so frustrated? Ok maybe not exactly this story, but you get the idea? Right?

Have you ever heard Jared James, author of the international best-selling book "ENJOY SUCCESS TODAY” and CEO & Founder of Jared James Enterprises speak? Well, he is pretty incredible and a tremendous asset to the Real Estate industry.  I had the pleasure of meeting him at a local Young Professional Network of Realtors event in Long Island, NY and he shared a pretty valuable concept with us.  In a nutshell, he said most people are not very good at managing our emotional bank account.  Many people spend $5.00 on an emotion that is worth only $.50. In other words every time we tell the story or think about something that we did not want to happen we are replaying it in our mind over and over again and withdrawing that time and energy from our emotional bank account.  Since I do not think there is a person in the world that has a surplus of time, this advice that we all could use. 

For now, I am signing off so I can get a good night rest for door knocking in the morning!  The movers are waiting, they are just waiting for the right opportunity for me to knock on their door! See you in the morning, movers!
