Oh Thank Heaven For 7-Eleven!
It was a pleasure meeting you today at Seven Eleven. My sister, Gail and I enjoyed our conversation with you very much. Also, thank you for offering your assistance with regard to the real estate field. After being laid off last year, it might be time to reinvent myself in a new area. I have always found real estate very interesting. Maybe I'll take you up on your offer one day. Let us know when and where we can read your blog. My sister and I look forward to seeing it. Yesterday afternoon I stopped into 7-11 in Baybridge Shopping Center in Bayside and boy did I have quite the experience?! I saw this guy give a woman a strange look and say something, for which I was too far away to hear. She then quickly walked away, and appeared to be slightly upset by it. I thought she was by herself and I wanted to make sure she was ok so I went over to introduce myself. It turns out, she was actually with her sister and was not sure who the guy was or why he was trying to interact with her, but she was just fine and grateful for my concern.
We started chatting and I found out these two sisters are residents of the Baybridge condos. I door knocked, both of them, (please read my Adventures of Door Knocking blogs for more info about door knocking.) Neither of them plan on moving right now, however they both happen to be looking for work. I informed them this is exactly how I got into Real Estate three years ago and EXIT Realty is hiring and does train.
One of the women asked about the difficulties of “getting into “a place like Baybridge , since they appear work with a select few real estate agents. I informed them that whenever an owner questions my experience in a particular development, this is my chance to educate them on my successes in other developments and neighborhoods similar to the one we will be selling together. I explained that most agents do have not eh buyers “in hand” when they take the listing. If they do it wouldn’t really make sense to make the seller sign contracts, disclosures and commission agreements, right? I have had agents present offers on my listings in Queens from Nassau, Suffolk and Manhattan. I’ve been told that that agents chose to work with me because compared to the dozens of other listings out there that are very similar, I knew more about the area, the development, and the buying and selling process, (particularly with selling co-ops) than any of the other agents that they worked with. This is because I educated myself by asking questions of the owner, of the management company and of my office and my closing coordinator. I am learning and mastering the art of real estate.
I shared with them that I am not like most agents, who sit around and wait for the phone to ring. I door knock, four days per week, looking for work. I sort through past leads and recapture them and connect people that plan on moving now or in the future. Often people who call into an agent are not ready to move they just want information. It is up to the agent to follow up and be on their mind when they are ready to buy or sell.
The two women seemed very interested in learning more. I let them know that I was going to blog about our conversation since I am grateful that in a place where I stopped to go to the Citibank ATM and grab a quick snack that I was able to educate two more people about the real estate market. I already received an email from one of them, which I posted above, with their personal information changed to protect their identity as I promised them.
As if that was not enough of an EXcITement for one day, I decided to door knock one of the cashiers. He is not moving, but he took my card and it was nice to learn about someone who I see on a regular basis; a full time cashier. I’m sure he will use my card at some point, especially since I qualified him in Spanish once he shared with me he was from El Salvador. On the way to my car though is what really takes the Big Gulp Slurpee or put the icing on the cake.
A woman stopped me to tell me how impressed she was with my Spanish and asked me for a card. Apparently she heard me speaking with the cashier. She then proceeded to tell me that she lives in Baybridge and moving to Kennedy Quad and has already been board approved for her purchase but waiting on the condo to approve her buyer. I asked her to clarify what she meant about the condo approving her buyer and she told me Baybridge Condos are now screening buyers. Wow, a condo doing board approvals, and holding up a sale, I learn something new every day. This will be for another blog. She assured me she would send me referrals and was impresses to hear about my team all across the Unites States and Canada. Her next move would be out of New York.
