Adventures in Door Knocking - Chapter 2

Adventures in Door Knocking

Please excuse the delay in blogs.  I had to take a short commercial break, but I am working on bringing everyone up to speed on my Adventures in Door Knocking.  Chapter 2 is ready for you!  I welcome and appreciate any feedback or questions.  Enjoy!

Chapter 2

Wednesday 9/14/11

28 doors knocked    17 people qualified    16 business cards handed out     1 hour 10 minutes

This morning I door knocked four parents as they were leaving an elementary school.  Before you get, EXcITed and say, "Did she really KNOCK on the classroom doors or the school buildings doors?" The answer is "No." By "door knock" I mean qualify people and determine whether or not they are moving within the next year.  As a REALTOR, I "door knock" people everywhere; in the bank, at the supermarket, in the park, at a wedding, a BBQ etc. Everyone needs a place to live right? If someone is planning on moving I want to be the first to know about it so I can help!

It turns out none of the mothers that I met were planning to move in the next twelve months.  However, when I informed why I was asking, they were quite impressed.  I took it a step further and let them know I would be happy to do a complimentary workshop or seminar during Open School Night, a Faculty Conference and/or during a PTA meeting.  I explained that I could speak about the benefits of homeownership, steps on upgrading to another home, the benefits of living in the area or other Real Estate topics they are interested in  learning more about.  I made sure to point out that I have Masters Degree in Education with five years of teaching experience and would be honored to volunteer my time to educate people about the market.

It was a great morning! Looking forward to having one of the parents call me to arrange a seminar.  Oh and if I do not hear back in a few weeks, I will just pay another visit.  It's a school and there are tons of moms and dads in the area.  I'm sure to find someone who is interested in working with me, right?

 Thursday 9/15/11

23 doors knocked    17 people qualified    18 business cards handed out    1 hour 17 minutes

I actually dropped my car alarm remote as I was door knocking today.  It was not until about forty minutes into my travels did I realize I was without it.  Thank goodness for my trusty map! I was able to retrace my steps and found it lying on the sidewalk waiting for me to rescue it.  Could you imagine if I did not have a map? I probably would have spent quite a bit of time trying to locate it or given up and just bought a new one?  I might have even lost my bearings and door knocked the same homes.  It has happened before.  Go ahead laugh, but a lot of the houses look alike.  Well, lesson learned; Never leave home with without your map.  Should you get into an "accident" and need to re-route yourself, this map will always get you back on track.

As far as my success this morning, every person I met was willing to take my card! Also, can you believe a contractor overheard me  door knocking the owner of the house and they ASKED ME for my card?! He said that he has been doing home renovations for years and has never seen anyone be so proactive about selling Real Estate and seem to genuinely like what they do.  I told him that, I don't like my job, I love it!
